Facilities Report – July/Aug 2017

Briefly I would like to update the church on the driveway project. The driveway needs erosion prevention which would be a gabion wall installed on abutting land. We have employed Paul Smith to handle legal matters. He recently obtained permission from the owners (who lease the building to Walgreens) for the project. However, the owners required that Walgreens themselves also had to give consent. We are still waiting for that.

Meanwhile, the large ash tree at edge of the road, near the church exit has to be removed. The root system would be a hindrance to the new parking lot, and the tree is in bad condition. In mid-July a large limb fell at the end of the driveway. So the tree will be coming down soon; in fact it may be down at press time.

Also, there is an underground conduit between Montgomery Hall and Dexter Hall. We use it for telephone, computer, audio, and video cables. It has to be replaced, so you may see a small excavation going on there in August. We may be without those services in Montgomery Hall for a week or two in late August.

After we receive permission from Walgreens, the project will have to be submitted to Windsor Locks Inlands and Wetlands Commission for approval. The possibility of getting the parking lot done this year is slight, more likely it will be next year before the driveway is completed.
